Covered entity

The published text, quoted as written, with its citation.

Covered entity means:
(1) A health plan.
(2) A health care clearinghouse.
(3) A health care provider who transmits any health information in electronic form in connection with a transaction covered by this subchapter.

As defined in HIPAA Privacy Rule, 45 CFR 160.103, issued by US Department of Health and Human Services, Office for Civil Rights

Covered entity has the same meaning given that term in 45 CFR 160.103.
